UFC 240: Holloway vs. Edgar

Preview and Predictions for UFC 240: Holloway vs. Edgar by Danny Rourke and Darell Garner
This weekend the UFC travels to Canada 🇨🇦 for UFC 240: Holloway vs. Edgar LIVE Saturday Night from the Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta. Action begins with:
Early Prelims     6:30PM/ET     UFC Fight Pass       Prelims         8:00PM/ET     ESPN       UFC 240       10:00PM/ET     PPV
UFC 240  Main Card Predictions
Marc-Andre Barriault (+135) vs. Krzysztof Jotko (-170)
To start the Main Card, Canada’s Marc-Andre “The PowerBar” Barriault (11-2-0) meets Krzysztof Jotko (20-4-0) in a Middleweight matchup. Jotko put an end to a three fight losing streak in April defeating Alen Amedovski at UFC St. Petersburg via Unanimous Decision. Jotko has a record of 7-4 since joining the UFC in December 2013 and tends to go the distance in the majority (14/24) of his pro fights. Marc-Andre  Barriault lost a Unanimous Decision to Andrew Sanchez in his promotional debut in May at UFC Ottawa, and ending an eight fight win streak. It was a tough assignment for Barriault to face Sanchez, who was dropping down to Middleweight, in his debut. I would keep my eye on the PowerBar who has eight wins by knockout, has never been finished in thirteen pro bouts and will have the support of the Canadian to energize Marc-Andre Barriault who will be seeking his first UFC win. Jotko was a little standoffish at the stare downs yesterday, so I expect these guys to provide some fireworks to kickoff the pay per view.
Danny’s Crystal Ball Predictions

: Barriault via Second Round KO
D’Bo’s Picks: Jotko via Decision
Olivier-Aubin Mercier (+170) vs. Arman Tsarukyan (-200)
“The Canadian Gangster” Olivier-Aubin Mercier (11-4-0) faces Arman Tsarukyan (13-2-0) in a Lightweight Contest. Arman Tsarukyan displayed  a lot of heart but ultimately came up short losing a Decision in his debut to the heavily favored Islam Makhachev at UFC St. Petersburg in April. Arman Tsarukyan had twelve straight wins highlighted by nine stoppage victories competing on the Russian fight circuit to earn his opportunity to fight in the UFC. OAM will be looking to get back on track following back to back Decision losses to Gilbert Burns and Alexander Hernandez. The Tristar MMA product is  7-3 in his last ten Octagon appearances and despite consecutive losses, I expect a bounce back performance from the fanny pack wearing Canadian Gangster.

Danny’s Crystal Ball Predictions

: Mercier via Decision
D’Bo’s Picks: Mercier via Second Round Submission

Geoff Neal (-365)  vs. Niko Price (+270)
Geoff “Handz of Steel” Neal (11-2-0) meets “The Hybrid” Niko Price (13-2-0,1NC) in what should be an intense and fast paced battle at Welterweight. Geoff Neal is coming off an impressive win over Belal Muhammad at UFC Brooklyn in January improving his official UFC record to 3-0 in the process. The Dana White Contender Series standout is developing nicely into a prospect to watch at Welterweight. Niko Price has provided his fair share of highlights inside the Octagon and I expect this fight to not lack in intensity. Price is coming off a First Round KO of Tim Means at UFC Wichita in March and has stoppage wins against three of his last four opponents. This is a tough fight to pick, but I strongly believe that this fight won’t be left up to the judges to determine the outcome.
Danny’s Crystal Ball Predictions

: Neal via First Round KO
D’Bo’s Picks: Price via First Round Submission
Cris Cyborg (-700) vs.  Felicia Spencer (+450)
Former UFC Featherweight Champion Cris Cyborg (20-2-0,1NC) makes her return to the Octagon for the first time since losing her title to face undefeated rising star Felicia “Feenom” Spencer  (7-0-0).  The former Invicta Featherweight Champion Felicia Spencer made quite an impression in her promotional debut two months ago at UFC Rochester, making quick work of Megan Anderson and ending the fight in the First Round by Submission. In her second UFC appearance, Felicia Spencer will only be matched up against one of the greatest to ever compete in Women’s MMA history, Cris Cyborg. Cris Cyborg will be fighting for the first time since losing her Featherweight title to Amanda Nunes at UFC 232 in last December, her first time tasting defeat inside the Octagon and only the second loss of her professional career. Seemingly always at odds with UFC President Dana White, Cyborg enters the last bout on her current UFC contract in a precarious situation. If Cyborg wins, she may sign a one fight deal to setup a rematch with Nunes. But if she loses, is this the last we see of Cyborg in the UFC? Lots of questions to be answered in what should be an exciting Co-Main event.
Danny’s Crystal Ball Predictions

: Spencer via First Round Submission
D’Bo’s Picks: Cyborg via First Round TKO
Main Event— UFC Featherweight Championship
{C} Max Holloway (-400) vs. # 4 Frankie Edgar (+300)
Max “Blessed” Holloway (20-3-0) makes his return to the Featherweight division as he meets “The Answer” Frankie Edgar (23-6-1) in the UFC 240 Main Event. Despite his epic display of heart at UFC 236, Max Holloway was unable to overcome Dustin Poirier in his bid to move up to Lightweight and simultaneously hold championship title in two separate weight divisions. Holloway handled his defeat to Poirier with grace and class, and returns to Featherweight, where he has  won his last thirteen in a row, to face surefire future UFC Hall of Famer Frankie Edgar, who has his eyes set on attaining UFC gold one last time. The former three time defending Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar has won three of his last four fights (W Swanson, L Ortega, W Rodriguez,W Stephens) to earn a chance at dethroning Holloway. The MMA math suggests Holloway’s wins over Jose Aldo (2x) and Brian Ortega, the two fighters who Edgar has most recently lost to, means Holloway should be able earn the win against Edgar. I feel that Max Holloway’s top notch takedown defense will put a wrench in Edgar’s clearest path to victory, using his wresting, and will  frustrate Frankie’s ability to implement a game plan against the larger fighter. Max’s use of the jab and utilizing his reach advantage should be the difference in this one.
Danny’s Crystal Ball Predictions

: Holloway via Third Round TKO
D’Bo’s Picks: Edgar via Decision
