Bellator 238: Budd vs. Cyborg

Preview and Predictions for Bellator 238: Budd vs. Cyborg by Danny Rourke and Darell Garner

This weekend Bellator MMA is back at the Forum in Inglewood, California for Bellator 238: Budd vs. Cyborg. The action begins on with the Prelims on DAZN at 7:30PM/ET, and will be followed by the Bellator 238 Main Card at 10:00PM/ET.
Bellator 238 Main Card Predictions
Raymond Daniels (-240) vs. Jason King (+190)
Reigning Bellator World Kickboxing Champion Raymond “Real Deal” Daniels (1-1-0) looks to improve to 2-0 inside the Bellator cage with another sensational performance against “The Asian Persuasion” Jason King (8-5-0,1NC) in a Welterweight bout. Despite having a storied kickboxing career and having a highlight reel KO performance against Wilker Barros at Bellator Birmingham last May in his first foray back into the sport of mixed martial arts in over ten years, there are still many questions that  have to be answered in regards to determining what kind of improvements Daniels has made in order to become more well rounded and to improve his ability to defend against ground attacks (Daniels 2008 Strikeforce debut resulted in a loss by Submission). Jason King makes his Bellator debut after having won three of his last four bouts by way of stoppage. Fortunately for Raymond Daniels, King has suffered four of his five losses by knockout and has only gone the distance once in fourteen professional fights. I am almost certain that this bout will not be go to the judges, the only question is, which fighter will crack first?
Danny’s Crystal Ball Prediction: King via First Round Submission
D’Bo’s Pick: Daniels via First Round TKO
Sergio Pettis (-270) vs. Alfred Khashakyan (+230)
Sergio “S.P.” Pettis (18-5-0) will try to make a strong first impression as he takes on veteran Bantamweight Alfred “The Fearless” Khashakyan (11-4-0) in his promotional debut. Although Sergio Pettis earned a Unanimous Decision win over Tyson Nam at UFC Mexico City in September, the younger brother of former Lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, had lost three of his last five inside the Octagon, against the likes of Rob Font, Jussier Formiga and current champ Henry Cejudo—Sergio Pettis decided it was time to make a career move and sign with Bellator. Since losing to Sean O’Malley on the Contender Series in 2017,  Alfred Khashakyan is on a three fight win streak and is ready to make some noise in his own promotional debut,  having finished all eleven of his professional wins by knockout. Khashakyan has fought against top notch talent in the past, and I expect this to be a tough debut matchup for Pettis in the first time he competes inside the Bellator cage.
Danny’s Crystal Ball Prediction: Khashakyan via Decision
D’Bo’s Pick: Pettis via Decision
Henry Corrales (+200) vs. Juan Archuleta (-240)
Next on deck, Henry “OK” Corrales (17-4-0) collides with “The Spaniard” Juan Archuleta (23-2-0) in a Featherweight bout that should be absolute fireworks. Juan Archuleta will be looking to bounce back from a Unanimous Decision loss to Bellator Double Champ Patricio Pitbull last September which put an end to an eighteen fight win streak for the Spaniard. Archuleta hopes to begin a new winning streak but handing a consecutive loss to Henry Corrales. “OK” Corrales saw his own personal five fight win streak come to an end on the very same fight card, losing to Darrion Caldwell by Unanimous Decision in the First Round of the Featherweight Grand Prix. Perhaps the winner of Archuleta-Corrales will be a standby alternate in the event of any future injuries to the remaining Grand Prix participants. Henry has the ability and power to end a fight in a moments notice, but Archuleta utilizes high level footwork to manage the distance and has an overhand right that absolutely cracks! This should  be a fun fight.

Danny’s Crystal Ball Prediction: Archuleta via Decision
D’Bo’s Pick: Archuleta via Decision
Adam Borics (+105) vs. Darrion Caldwell (-125)
Undefeated Adam “The Kid” Borics (14-0-0) takes on former Bellator Bantamweight Champion Darrion “The Wolf” Caldwell (14-3-0) in a what should be a fiery Featherweight World Grand Prix Quarterfinal matchup. Darrion Caldwell was able to shrug off consecutive title fight losses to Kyoji Horiguchi by successfully making the move up to Featherweight at Bellator 228 in September (in the same venue as this Saturday), and grinding out a Unanimous Decision win over the ever dangerous Henry Corrales. Having defeated his last six opponents by way of stoppage, there is no denying that Adam Borics is competing at a high level right now, punctuating by his recent TKO wins over former Champ Pat Curran and  mega prospect Aaron Pico. I think the well rounded Adam Borics collects the scalp of his second straight former champion.
Danny’s Crystal Ball Prediction: Borics via Second Round Submission
D’Bo’s Pick: Borics via First Round TKO
MAIN EVENT
{C} Julia Budd (+310) vs. Cris Cyborg (-400)
Women’s Featherweight Champion Julia “The Jewel” Budd (13-2-0) hopes to retain her title and spoil the Bellator debut of MMA legend Cris Cyborg (21-2-0) as they square off in the Bellator 238 Main Event. Riding an eleven fight win streak, Julia Budd will attempt to make her fourth successful Featherweight title defense against the most feared fighter in Women’s MMA history. Cris Cyborg suffered her first loss in thirteen years, losing to Amanda Nunes at UFC 232 in devastating fashion via First Round Knockout. Cyborg went on to win in the last fight on her UFC contract, defeating Felicia Spencer at UFC 240 by Unanimous Decision to finish with a UFC record of 6-1. Cyborg aims to win her fourth title in a major MMA organization (Strikeforce, Invicta, UFC) with a victory over Julia Budd. Since losing to Ronda Rousey in Strikeforce back in 2011, the Jewel is 11-0, with a perfect 7-0 record inside the Bellator cage. Budd’s only professional losses have come against Rousey and Amanda Nunes. Many people may see this fight as a red carpet rollout for Cyborg to become a Bellator Champion, but if Budd can withstand the initial onslaught from Cyborg, Budd could cement her own status of one of the greatest women’s fighters in MMA history.
Danny’s Crystal Ball Prediction: Budd via Second Round Submission
D’Bo’s Pick: Budd via Third Round Submission
In four weeks, Bellator MMA  returns to the Winstar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Oklahoma for Bellator 239: Ruth vs. Amosov. Share your thoughts and picks with us in the Comments section below and enjoy the fights!
