Bellator 221 Main Card Predictions
Tywan Claxton (-475) vs. James Bennett (+325)
To kickoff the Main Card, Tywan “Speedy” Claxton (4-0-0) puts his perfect 4-0 record inside the Bellator cage on the line against James “Berzerker” Bennett (4-1-0). In his last cage appearance at Bellator 212 last December, Speedy Claxton earned the third stoppage win of his career by defeating Kaeo Meyer via First Round TKO (Punches). James Bennett returns to the Bellator cage after a successful promotional debut last April at Bellator 198, where he finished Dustin Stusse via First Round TKO. In August, Bennett picked up a First Round Submission win over Jordan Wiggins competing on the regional circuit at XFO 64 in Illinois, and has finishes in all four of his professional wins. This should be an exciting battle that could go either way.
Danny’s Crystal Ball Prediction 🔮: Claxton via Decision
D’Bo’s Picks: Claxton via First Round TKO
Jake Hager (-600) vs. TJ Jones (+400)
Formerly known by WWE fans as Jack Swagger, Jake Hager (1-0-0) meets TJ Jones (1-1-0) in the second pro MMA fight of his new career. In January, Jake Hager looked pretty impressive in his professional debut at Bellator 214, sinking in an early arm-triangle choke to submit J. W. Kiser in the First Round. TJ Jones will make a return to mixed martial arts following a ten year hiatus. TJ Jones went 1-1, with a Submission win and a KO loss competing for Throwdown Showdown based out of Utah. Jones can say what he wants, but I don’t see him getting his hand raised on Saturday.
Danny’s Crystal Ball Prediction 🔮: Hager via First Round Submission
D’Bo’s Picks: Jones via First Round TKO
AJ McKee (-300) vs. Pat Curran (+220)
“The Mercenary” AJ McKee (13-0-0) gets the biggest test of his career as he takes on former two time Bellator Featherweight Champion Pat “Paddy Mike” Curran (23-7-0). With his First Round Submission of Daniel Crawford at Bellator 212 in December, “The Mercenary” remained undefeated and improved to 3-0 in 2018. McKee’s first bout of 2019 will be his toughest yet to date. In thirty pro fights, Pat Curran has never been knocked out and submitted only once. While “Paddy Mike” has not fought since October 2017, Curran still carries a three fight win streak dating back to 2015, into his bout with McKee. With a win over Curran, AJ McKee should be able to challenge for the Featherweight title.in his next fight. How will the Mercenary handle in a high pressure situation against the former Featherweight champ? Should be good.
Danny’s Crystal Ball Prediction 🔮: McKee via Decision
D’Bo’s Picks: McKee via Third Round Submission
Co Main Event— Welterweight World Grand Prix, Second Round
Douglas Lima (-240) vs. Michael Page (+200)
In what should be “must- see TV” for all MMA fans,”the Phenom “ Douglas Lima (30-7-0)) takes on undefeated MVP, Michael “Venom” Page (14-0-0) in the Second Round of the Welterweight World Grand Prix. Michael Venom Page managed to narrowly escape past rival Paul Daley with a Unanimous Decision at Bellator 216, to move on to the Grand Prix Semifinals. Douglas Lima faced a familiar foe in the Quarterfinals, as he met Andrey Koreshkov for a third time. Lima defeated The Spartan in the final round via Rear Naked Choke. Lima looked great and poised to make another run for the Welterweight title and will be a 2-1 favorite over MVP to move on to the finals. Page exposed some holes in his ground game that I expect Douglas Lima to take full advantage of. I’m excited for his fight for sure.
Danny’s Crystal Ball Prediction 🔮: Lima via Second Round TKO
D’Bo’s Picks: Lima via Decision
Michael Chandler (-245) vs. Patricio Pitbull (+205)
“Iron” Mike Chandler (18-4-0) looks to defend his Lightweight title and remain perfect against the Pitbull Brothers, as he faces the older Pitbull (28-4-0), Patricio, who is also the current Bellator Featherweight Champion. While Michael Chandler is 2-0 against the younger Patricky Pitbull, this will be the first time that Chandler throws down with Patricio. Patricio Pitbull will be hoping to become a two division Bellator champion, and exact some revenge on behalf of his brother. After rolling his ankle in the First Round and shockingly losing his title to Brent Primus at Bellator NYC in June 2017, Chandler made it a mission to get his title back in 2018. With back to back wins over Goiti Yamauchi and Brandon Girtz, Chandler was able to wrestle his belt back from Primus in December, with a clear Unanimous Decision win in their rematch at Bellator 212. Patricio Pitbull is on a current three fight win streak, successfully defending his title twice with decision wins over Daniel Weichel (Split) at Bellator 203 and Emmanuel Sanchez (Unanimous) at Bellator 209. The bad blood and animosity between Chandler and the Pitbull Brothers has been there from the start, and I expect this to be a heated contest from the beginning to end.
Danny’s Crystal Ball Prediction 🔮: Chandler via Second Round TKO
D’Bo’s Picks: Pitbull via Fourth Round TKO
